Journey Across Italy -Day 4

Day 4- Thursday December 22nd

Ok folks this post has a lot of pictures- I just could not narrow it down! On this day we went inside the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, which are all right next to each other. Everyone knows about the Colosseum of course but these other Ancient Roman ruins are often included when you purchase tickets to see it. After the ruins we took the bus to see a very special and very large monument called the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. It was originally built to honor the first king of Unified Italy in the early 20th century but also contains the Alter of the Fatherland, a memorial to Italyā€™s unknown soldier. Serendipitously, this monument was just across the street from a rooftop bar recommended by a friend. We had some warm cocktails there and watched the sun set over the dormers of the city.
